Pigment vs Anaplan for planning beyond finance
License names without a public dollar, beside a representative 12-month Connected Planning contract.
A sales quota and a supply plan that change in the same week still fail when someone retypes both into the finance model by hand. Anaplan’s Agent Studio page was last modified on 1 Oct 2026.
Planning products used to be sold as one finance suite. The market then split by scale. Same buyer, different scale. Pigment is for a finance team that wants a modern model. Anaplan is for when planning has to span finance, sales, and supply.
Overview
| Primary use case | A planning model governed by application permissions that separate viewing, data entry, and changes to model logic | A Connected Planning workspace where people log in to build or view plans |
|---|---|---|
| Day-to-day workflow | A Workspace Admin, Security Admin, or Primary Owner opens Settings, then Plan and Usage, to read the plan name, the start and end dates, and license use | Changing the unit count after the term starts is a request to the vendor. The listing describes no automatic tier jump |
| Main buying consideration | A new member starts as Explorer. Further permissions move that member to Contributor or Editor. Builder, Workspace Admin, Security Admin, and Primary Owner are Editors | The contract commits a quantity of units for the term. More users or more workspace means a larger quantity of units |

Editions and pricing
Pigment’s public license article has no figure that states currency, unit, period, commitment, and included product together. Anaplan’s listing does print one representative contract figure, with the scope named on that row.
| How it is sold | A platform fee, a number of licenses, and associated features | One pricing dimension, Connected Planning, billed by units under a contract. Units cover users, workspace, and access to the planning platform |
|---|---|---|
| Figure on the public page | No public price with currency, unit, period, commitment, and included product. The license names are Explorer, Contributor, and Editor | USD 750,000 for 12 months. The row reads Connected Planning: users, workspace, and access to the product. The listing says the figure is a representative customer and varies with users, solutions, configuration options, and contract duration. It is not a per-person rate and it is not CoModeler |
| What the listing adds about payment | Purchased Partner licenses are included in the license count. The article points to a Customer Success Manager for which features sit on the plan | Refunds are not offered except as required by law. Fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable except as required by law |
The finance model
Permission columns, not a second product name, separate view, data entry, and model changes.
| Scenario permissions | Create Scenarios and Delete Scenarios are Editor permissions. Explorer and Contributor columns do not include them | CoModeler can add scenarios or logic to an application model or a custom model. It should be used in development environments, and it can recognize deployed mode |
|---|---|---|
| Data entry short of model logic | Contributor covers list items, import, clone data, and Block Explorer. Configure Application, Define Application security, and Configure Blocks stay on Editor | A unit includes people who log in to build or view plans. Workspace is the modeling capacity where data and calculations live |
| Interface on the model | The 10 Sep 2026 announcement describes Frames on the planning model, with access rights and two-way write-back. Open beta to all customers is dated 28 Sep 2026. Agent Connectors named there are Notion, Google Drive, and Slack, plus an MCP server, each inside existing permissions | Every unit includes workflow and approvals, connected reporting, and application lifecycle management. The listing says there are no separate feature tiers to buy |
Planning across finance, sales, and supply
Pigment’s company page and Anaplan’s listing each print names for planning outside a single finance workbook. The names are not the same control.
| Named solutions | Company page use cases include financial planning and analysis, sales territory, capacity, and incentive planning, and demand forecasting, inventory, and S&OP | The listing names Anaplan for Finance, including FP&A and OPEX; Anaplan for Supply Chain, including supply, demand, and sales and operations planning; and Anaplan for Sales and Marketing, including sales planning, incentives, and pipeline and revenue forecasting |
|---|---|---|
| Who enables the assistant | Configure AI Agents and Access AI Agents are included on the Explorer column, and on Contributor and Editor as well | Only the AI Admin role can open Agent Studio. That role can enable Finance Analyst, Supply Chain Analyst, Sales Analyst, and Workforce Analyst for applications, and Analyst for a custom model |
| Modeling assistant subscription | The company page describes a Modeler Agent that builds governed models aligned to structure and logic. It does not print a separate price for that agent | CoModeler is an entitled service and requires a separate subscription. A workspace administrator activates it per workspace in Agent Studio. It is available in Polaris and Classic workspaces |
On 27 May 2025 Etex said it is deploying Anaplan across supply chain, finance, and commercial teams in its fiber cement business.
Favor Pigment when the documented requirement is the Editor license on the 12 May 2026 article: the member who creates formulas and defines the model’s logic. Favor Anaplan when the documented requirement is Agent Studio’s Finance Analyst, Supply Chain Analyst, and Sales Analyst configurations.
FAQs
What happens to Analyst configurations from before 28 Sep 2026?
Analyst on the Agentic Platform is available as of 28 Sep 2026. Analysts configured and enabled before that date remain operational. An upgrade starts with a review of model roles, model access, selective access, and Dynamic Cell Access, then a request to the Customer Success Business Partner. After the switch, AI administrators get a Usage tab and an Archive tab. Extra context goes in the Notes field on a line item. The page says there is no configuration other than switching Analyst on for an application.
Are Pigment legacy v1 and v2 plans still for sale?
The current license article says those legacy articles describe pricing that is not available to new customers and cannot be renewed.
What does the Pigment free trial include?
The 10 Sep 2026 announcement describes a free trial in which a description produces a starter model and an interactive board. That announcement does not state a duration or a dollar amount.
