Pentera vs SafeBreach: attack-path proof vs BAS control validation

Pentera when you hire automated security validation that proves exploitable attack paths in production and re-tests fixes. SafeBreach when you hire enterprise BAS and attack-path simulation (Validate + Propagate) to prove controls catch real TTPs.

Vulnerability scanners can sit at 0 criticals for a week while the board still asks for proof that ransomware lateral movement would fail. That false confidence is expensive: audit evidence that only repeats CVSS lists, purple-team hours spent re-proving the same control story, and a remediation queue that never learns which paths actually open. Continuous validation products exist to replace assumption with attack evidence.

Between these two, Pentera packages automated security validation across Core, Surface, and Cloud engines with Resolve remediations and re-testing after fixes. SafeBreach packages enterprise breach and attack simulation through Validate, assumed-breach path validation through Propagate, and Helm AI agents on its exposure-validation / CTEM platform story. Scanner shortlists are a different hire later; BAS and CTEM category pages sit under BAS tools and CTEM tools.

SafeBreach

SafeBreach breach and attack simulation product marketing

Pentera’s current first-party packaging signal is the unified validation platform (Core, Surface, Cloud, Resolve, Peer) sold as continuous exposure validation with native remediation and re-test. SafeBreach’s current packaging signal is Validate (BAS) plus Propagate (attack-path validation) under the Exposure Validation / AEV / CTEM platform story, with Helm as the AI orchestration layer.

Editions and pricing

Neither vendor publishes a self-serve Free ladder like some ASPM tools. Mid-stage pilots still start with scoped PoCs and a written unit map.

If procurement needs a published dollar floor this week, the only figure in this pair is Pentera’s AWS Marketplace unit: USD $120,000 for one 12-month private-offer dimension named Pentera. SafeBreach remains sales-led until the vendor publishes a price.

How validation runs

Pentera PenteraSafeBreach SafeBreach
Testing centerComplete kill-chain style adversarial testing in live environments under customer guardrails (Core internal, Surface external, Cloud cloud-native)Validate: BAS playbooks / campaigns that exercise control layers against real-world TTPs. Propagate: assumed-breach lateral movement, credential, and path validation
Category framingAutomated security validation / continuous automated pentesting; positions itself as proving exploitability beyond scanner lists and beyond playbook-only BASBAS heritage plus attack-path validation; markets AEV and enterprise CTEM enablement with Helm agents
Noise reduction storyCollapse theoretical alerts into validated root-cause paths; prioritize by proven exploitability and business impactShow which controls blocked or missed a technique; prioritize remediation where simulation or path evidence fails
Main buying considerationDo you need a production test that can exploit a found path and show where it stopped?Do you need playbook proof that a control caught a technique, with a separate assumed-breach report when blast radius is the question?

Pentera Core can exploit a found path inside a scoped production test, and it records each action, whether a control detected or stopped it, and where the path ended. SafeBreach Validate does a different job: it runs a playbook against a control and records whether that control caught the technique. SafeBreach Propagate, on the same simulators and console, maps how far an assumed breach from a chosen host can travel and returns a gap report. Propagate is a SafeBreach product. It is not a Pentera module.

SafeBreach’s documented BAS hire matches that control-proof job: campaigns that challenge the claim that stacked defenses already block the technique. Pentera’s documented center on the same continuous-validation lane is still production attack-path exploitability with Resolve re-test, not a longer control-simulation brochure.

Evidence, remediation, and re-test

Pentera PenteraSafeBreach SafeBreach
PrerequisitesThe Core page says you set scope and timing. A black-box run does not require a prior map or credentials. A separate install checklist was not found on that pagePropagate uses the same simulator infrastructure and management console as Validate. You choose where and what may be tested before the run
CredentialsBlack Box supplies none. Grey-box What-if uses access you provide, such as a user credential, to measure how far that start can reach. Active Directory password assessment is a separate named test on the Core pageThe Propagate page says credentials the test collects are checked so they can be used without locking the account. A requirement to upload a credential file first was not found on that page
ExclusionsA published list of excluded hosts, ports, or techniques was not found on the Core page. The controls named there are the scope you set and an optional read-only modeA published exclusion catalog was not found on the Propagate page. The control the FAQ names is the scope you set for where and what is tested
Impact controlsThrottling, impact limits, an emergency stop, optional read-only mode, and full audit logging. The page says each technique is tested so it does not affect the customer environment. That is a product claim, not a service-credit clauseThe FAQ says the scope you set is how you keep the test off critical services. A numeric impact cap or an emergency-stop control was not found on that page
Evidence artifactThe run record includes each action and its result, successful and failed techniques, the path, where a control detected or stopped it, and where the path ended. The attack map is tied to MITRE ATT&CK. Re-running the path is the check that a fix held. Resolve can place that re-test in the remediation workflowPropagate’s artifact is a structured report of gaps and mitigation recommendations, plus the path and post-breach exposure. Validate’s artifact is whether a control passed or failed a playbook. Those are different reports
Remediation pathResolve prioritizes and tickets validated findings, then re-tests to confirm exposure reductionAI Remediation and stack-aware guidance on Validate results; owners close detection and configuration gaps from simulation output
RevalidationFirst-party emphasis on re-testing after fixes as the proof loop for CTEM-style programsContinuous or scheduled re-runs of campaigns to track control improvement over time
Main buying considerationDo you need exploitability proof and fix confirmation as the weekly audit / board evidence?Do you need control-efficacy proof and path context as the weekly purple-team evidence?

If the open work after scanning is still “show me the path an attacker would actually walk and prove the patch closed it,” Pentera’s Core-to-Resolve loop is the documented center. If the open work is “prove our EDR, email, network, and SIEM stack catches this week’s campaign,” SafeBreach Validate (with Propagate when blast radius matters) is the documented center.

Where they overlap

Both compete as commercial continuous validation platforms that claim safer-than-manual evidence for CTEM-style programs, prioritize beyond raw CVSS, and market AI-assisted analysis or remediation. An RFP that only says “best exposure validation” will get adjacent demos. The remaining split is Pentera’s automated security validation / production attack-path packaging (Core, Surface, Cloud, Resolve) versus SafeBreach’s enterprise BAS Validate plus Propagate path validation under Helm / AEV branding.

Related BAS packaging sits on Picus vs Cymulate. Broader CTEM shortlists sit under CTEM tools.

When to use both

Running Pentera and SafeBreach as duplicate owners of the same weekly validation queue usually doubles simulator / test noise and remediation tickets. The narrow split that sometimes appears is SafeBreach Validate as the continuous control-efficacy program for detection engineering while Pentera Core / Surface / Cloud owns exploitability proof for vulnerability and exposure owners on a bounded app set. If one team owns both queues, pick the packaging you will staff: production attack-path proof with re-test versus BAS control proof plus assumed-breach paths.

Choose Pentera when you need automated security validation that proves exploitable attack paths in production across Core / Surface / Cloud and re-tests remediations through Resolve (treat the AWS Marketplace price of USD $120,000 for one 12-month private-offer dimension named Pentera as a procurement signal, not the full negotiated program price). Choose SafeBreach when you need enterprise BAS control proof with Validate, assumed-breach path validation with Propagate, and Helm-led CTEM orchestration on a sales-led simulator / module quote.

FAQs

Is Pentera the same as a vulnerability scanner?

No on the documented pitch. Pentera markets automated security validation that proves exploitability with adversarial testing. Scanners inventory and score CVEs; keep scanner packaging on their own shortlists.

Is SafeBreach only BAS?

SafeBreach Validate is the control-test product: playbooks against defenses. SafeBreach Propagate is the assumed-breach product on the same simulators and console, and its report is the path and the gaps, not a control pass or fail. Confirm which module is on the order form.

Does Pentera publish list prices?

Not a full rate card on pentera.io. AWS Marketplace lists one 12-month contract dimension at USD $120,000.00 for the product named Pentera, as a private offer (checked 2 Oct 2026). The listing does not state which modules that unit includes.

Does SafeBreach publish list prices?

Not on safebreach.com as of 2 Oct 2026. Expect a sales quote scoped by simulators, management modules, and content packs. Do not treat third-party review estimates as official list prices.

Is this a hands-on bake-off?

No. The comparison uses Pentera Core and SafeBreach Propagate pages, the Marketplace unit price, and one community thread. We did not install either product in a paid lab tenant.
